We are a non-profit health service organization, dedicated to the mutual aid and moral support of Ostomates and their families, and to assisting in the rehabilitation of persons who have had ostomy surgery. We do this through our visiting program, monthly newsletters, The Ostomy Quarterly magazine, monthly meetings, and educational programs in the community. 

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, except August, at 7:00pm, in the meeting room of the Texas Cancer Center at Sherman, located at 2800 Hwy 75 North. This is located on the access road, southbound from the intersection of Hwy 82. 

Meetings are open to new ostomates, families, and any interested individuals. Programs are pertinent, informative, and interesting. 

Annual membership dues are $25.00. This includes membership in the United Ostomy Association and the "Ostomy Quarterly" magazine. 

Visitation is an important function of the Sherman Area Ostomy Association Chapter. Trained, certified visitors visit both pre-op and post-op patients when requested. Being able to talk with a person who demonstrates an ability to live a normal, happy life after ostomy surgery frequently helps the patient to accept the surgery, which is very important in the rehabilitation process. The ostomy visitor offers visual evidence and reassurance that life with an ostomy need not be a handicap. 

When the new ostomate can attend ostomy meetings, he gets personal guidance about appliances, equipment, and skin care. A strict confidentiality policy is observed for members and attendees. 

The chapter has an  Enterostomal Therapist member: Kristell Michael, RN, BSN, CWOCN. She is employed by Wilson N. Jones Regional Health Systems, Sherman, Texas.
